- Our last 4 Thursday nights of summer chess are all in the auditorium of
the Weslayan Building B. Please find the map attached in case you can't
find the earlier version sent out in June. (Map)
- Our first chess tournament will be the Klein Back-to-School on August
16th. Details can be found on the Klein web site:
http://liptrap.topcities.com/kbts03.htm I would like to see a full
team go to that event. The flyer is attached. You complete and mail your
own registration. While the forms do not go through me, I would like to
know who is planning on attending. Please email me when you register your
child. While unrated sections are available, I would prefer to see all of
you play in the rated sections.
- Our afterschool chess club will begin on Tuesday, August 26th. I need
to have the police background checks already completed and approved by then
for at least a portion of my adult volunteers. I also need the VIPS
registration form completed. We can get both of these taken care of now
before the giant back to school rush. Let me remind you that every family
that has a child participating in chess club is required to volunteer
with the club each semester. This is a parent run organization. Therefore,
I need at least one adult from each family to complete and turn in the
attached forms. Note that a xerox of your license or Texas id is mandatory.
It does not, however, have to be in the little box on the page, but can be
stapled to the form. You may bring these to me on Thursday night and I will
turn them in or you can give it to Nancy Walker, Ms Manley's secretary at
school.
- If your child no longer attends T. H. Rogers or is no longer in the
chess club and you would like to get off this mailing list, please email me
and say so. It is the easiest way for me to deal with this list.
- Most importantly,
I am still looking for some assistance in running the club next year. I
emailed the following 2 months ago and have had zero response.
Co-Coordinator Needed
I am looking for a co- coordinator for next year. I don't intend to do
any less for the club, but it would be a relief to know that things
wouldn't fall apart if I got sick or had to go out of town. We have been
lucky so far, but the club is to a size that some additional committed
help is warranted. If you think you might like to work with me, please
let me know. You don't have to know how to play chess, just be willing to
learn how the club runs and be willing to help manage things on Tuesdays.
Let me know.
Chess Assistants Needed
With over 100 kids coming to chess every week (and last year 18 or 22
kindergartners participating), the club could certainly use some more
adults willing to come and work with our beginner players. We can teach
you everything you need to know. You just need to be willing to learn and
to come. Again, let me know.
Hoping to hear from lots of you soon,
Martha
