Sent 1/27/05

Congratulations to the T. H. Rogers Elementary Chess Team for once again winning the Klein Winter Scholastic.  That makes 2 in a row.  Our Middle School placed 2nd, which was also a fine finish.

With 350 participants, the Klein Winter Scholastic is the largest local scholastic tournament each year.  Of the tournaments we attend, only state and national meets will draw more contestants.  Trophies are awarded to the top elementary, middle and high school teams.   On our elementary team, special kudos go to:

  • Edward Yun - 4th grade, for winning his division with a perfect 5.0 score,
  • Truman Roscoe - 2nd grade, also winning his division with a perfect 5.0 score,
  • Anderson Isdale - 2nd grade, tied for second in his division with a 4.0,
  • Elllen Xiang - 2nd grade, tied for sixth in her division with a 3.5,
  • Tommy Williamson - 3rd grade, tied for sixth in his division with a 3.5.

On the middle school team, kudos go to:

  • Matthew Resh - 6th grade, tied for 3rd in his division with a 4.0
  • Jeff Feng - 6th grade, tied for 4th along with
  • Matthew Michaelides - 6th grade, in the Advanced division
  • Tian Tan - 8th grade, and
  • Ace Isidro - 6th grade tied for 7th  in their division with 3.0 scores.

Great job teams, and we look forward the the Regional, State, and National meets!
