Team takes first at Village School

Congratulations to the T. H. Rogers Chess Team for winning first place in the Village School Chess Tournament on January 10, 2004. 20 students from T. H. Rogers competed at the event. In this tournament, all of our elementary and middle school participants played on the same team. The tournament awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place to the top teams.

Winning their respective divisions and leading the T. H. Rogers team to victory were:

Curtis Roscoe - 4th grade - with a perfect 5.0 score
Ellen Xiang - 1st grade - with a perfect 5.0 score
Ace Isidro - 5th grade - on a tie with a score of 4.5

Also of note were the following students who each scored 4.0 and were in multi-way ties for second place in their divisions.

Kartikeya Tayal - 6th grade
Ankeet Mutha - 4th grade
Elizabeth Kuncewicz - 5th grade
Ayush Sharma - 2nd grade
Tommy Williamson - 2nd grade

Many thanks to Coach David who gave up his Saturday to come and analyze games with the kids between rounds. I also want to thank the many parents who stayed all day in support of their children (and me). Once again I was proud of the team and of the good sportsmanship, team spirit and high level of play exhibited.
