• If you have an elementary student, please be sure to inform their teacher that your child is to go to chess.... not the bus ramp or the car pool line.
• Please send me an email if they are to go to the YMCA at the end of chess.  I like to have my own list of who is to go.
   
  • Note:  I frequently have other meetings and activities on Tuesday.  If you need to email me about a change in pick up or whatever, please do so the night before club.  I usually check my email around 6:30 am, but there is no guarantee that I will look at it again before chess that afternoon.

Chess Classes

The Wednesday and Friday classes also start this week.  I will be there on both Wednesday and Friday for the first couple of weeks to see that things are running smoothly and to collect additional paperwork and fees as needed.


Paperwork

Remember, I need a new registration form every year.  If you have not yet sent it too me, please have your child bring it tomorrow along with their check.  You may combine the club and class fees on one check (and fill out only one registration form) if they are coming twice a week.  Checks should be made out to T. H. Rogers.  Forms and details about how to register (including a parent checklist) are online at: www.throgerschess.com.  We do not limit the chess club size.  However the classes are limited, so you must call or email me to be sure there is space if you wish to register your child.  My home phone is: 713-592-8758. 


Kindergarten Students

The K-1 class does start this Wednesday.  However, as was stated in the letter given out at orientation, Kindergartners do not come to chess club until the 2nd or 3rd week of September.  We will send a notice through Ms. Reardon when we are ready for them to come.  

In the interim, if a parent wishes to come, pick up their child, bring them to club and stay and work with them, that would be fine.  I am thinking particularly of families with more than one child in the club who would have to pick one up at 3 pm and then turn around and pick the other up at 4:15 pm.  Until we get the older students evaluated and the club organized and running smoothly, we just don't have the manpower to work with the kindergartners who don't even know how to play or where the bathrooms are.  Be patient.  Their classes start Wednesday (where they will learn how to play) and we will allow them into the club in September.

Missing Parent Volunteer Sheets

Someone picked up by mistake a couple of our parent volunteer sign up sheets at orientation.  We are missing a hot pink sheet for Tuesday volunteers covering the first 4 weeks:  August 23 - September 13.  We are also missing a green sheet listing volunteer jobs for our upcoming tournament.  If these pages got mixed in with your other paperwork, please send them back in to us.  Also, parents, if you know you signed up to be a volunteer during the first 4 weeks, please let me know.... just in case those sheets never turn up.  Thanks
