2005 Texas All-Girls Scholastic Chess Championship

Four of our girls traveled to Brownsville this past weekend to compete in the Texas All-Girls Scholastic Chess Championship.  Continuing their winning streak were sisters:
  • Ellen Xiang - 3rd grade - who won the primary division with a perfect 6.0 score, and
  • Evan Xiang - 1st grade - who won the K-1 division also with a perfect 6.0 score!

They both earned the title of 2005 Texas Girls Chess Champion.  Way to go!

Also having a terrific event were:

  • Eleanor Gilbert - 3rd grade - who tied for 6th place with a 4.0 score, and
  • Seshni Naidoo - 1st grade - who tied for 4th place also with a 4.0 score.

We would have needed 4 girls in each division to have had a full team.  But even with just 2 girls per division, they played so well that they earned some very respectable team trophies.  Our

  • Primary team of Ellen and Eleanor won the 5th place team trophy, and our
  • K-1 team of Evan and Seshni won the 4th place team trophy<>.

Congratulations to all 4 girls!

Susan Polgar National Open Championship for Girls

In my tournament email, I missed mentioning that the Susan Polgar National Open Championship for Girls will be this January 27-29, 2006 in Corpus Christi, TX.  The deadline for entering at the lower cost rate is this December 1st!  Additional information can be found on Ms. Polgar's web site.  I hope we can field a full team for this event.  The divisions for this event are broader: K-2 and 3-5 (also middle school and open) and only the top 3 scores per team will count.  Also, Corpus Christi is a lot closer than Brownsville....only about 200 miles.  Therefore, it should be easier for us to get a full team there.  Girls, I hope you will consider going.
