Earning Points |
|
During club, students are able to earn points for playing chess: 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Students can also earn extra points for recording their games, analyzing them with their teachers, doing homework, playing in tournaments, and teaching chess to beginners. Points are only positive. You can never lose them. Even if you lose a game, you still earn points. Earning a certain number of points is one of the prerequisites for taking a ranking exam. Passing the exam earns the rank. Testing helps us gauge student progress. It is not meant to be a high stress affair. It is meant to help us as teachers know that we are not leaving anyone behind. Student performance should help us target our instruction. We have revised our exams this year. While continuing students will not loose any previously earned rank, they will not be allowed to test on a higher level until they can show they have mastered all portions of the new tests relative to their current rank. _______________________________________________________________________________
