scholastic players

For experienced players,
Thursday nights are informal. This is chess club, not chess class.
While we should have at least 2 coaches there every Thursday, their
primary function will be game analysis, not a formal lesson in front of
a demo board. Formal instruction for experienced players is
offered during the Monday and Tuesday night classes and at camp.

From 6:30 - 7:30 pm,
Coach Larry Englebretson will offer beginner lessons to both students
and parents wishing to learn to play chess. No experience
necessary.

Rules |

You may not drop your children off at the door to the
building. You must walk in and sign your children in just as if you
were taking them to camp at the science museum. Ditto for picking them
up. It is required that you leave an emergency phone number on the sign
in form. These are standard safety precautions.

The Weslayan Building closes at 8:30 pm. So, you
must be timely in picking up your child.

Do not send a hungry child.
Please feed them dinner before they come. Parents should not
assume their children can wait until 8:30 or 9 pm to eat. This has
been a problem in the past. There will be no snacks or drinks in
the room. A hungry child can not concentrate.
- If you are
bringing a toddler or other non-chess playing child and staying for the
entire session, please bring something for them to do. Some Legos,
crayons and paper, or books would be appropriate. They should be
quietly occupied, not running around.

If I do not have a current
registration form for your child, please complete the
Summer Chess
Registration Form. If you have completed a camp registration
form for this summer, that is sufficient unless any of the information
has changed.

Please bring the form with
you the first time your child attends. Or between now and mid-May,
you may mail it to:

Please do not
mail them in the summer. I will not be at the school often enough
to pick up any additional mailed forms.
