Who

Rated tournament players.

  • Note that these classes are for serious students only.  There will be homework and high expectations for behavior and effort.

  • If your child is not a rated player, but would like to start playing tournament chess, please contact me before sending a registration form and check.  Because we are not offering a beginner class, we will need to evaluate his/her playing level to see if one of these classes is appropriate.

  • Enrollment limited to 16 students per class.

  • Priority registration will go to T. H. Rogers team members or incoming students.

Fees

$120 per student, irrespective of how many weeks your child will actually be there.

However, as with all of our programs, we do not want the fee to be a barrier to any child's participation.  Financial aid is available to families as needed.

Registration Please email me right away (info@throgerschess.com) regarding your interest.  Class size is limited.  If demand far exceeds capacity, we may be able to add additional sections.  If I do not already have a camp registration form, I will need a Summer Chess Registration Form and a check made payable to T. H. Rogers once you have been accepted.  Mail materials to:

Rules
  • You may not drop your child off at the door to the building, even if they are in middle school.  You must walk in and sign your child in just as if you were taking them to camp at the science museum.  For one thing, this ensures that the coaches are not stuck in a traffic jam and you are not dropping your child off at an empty building.  You must also sign your child out.  We will not release them to the parking lot.  It is required that you leave an emergency phone number on the sign in form.  These are standard safety precautions.

  • The Weslayan Building closes at 8:30 pm.  So, you must be timely in picking up your child.

  • Do not send a hungry child.  Please feed them dinner before they come.  Parents should not assume their children can wait until 8:30 or 9 pm at night to eat dinner.  This has been a problem in the past.  There will be no snacks or drinks in the room.  A hungry child can not concentrate.

  • You may send a bottle of water. There are, however, water fountains in the hall.

  • Last summer, the building was frequently cold.  If your child gets chilled easily, please send a jacket or sweater.
