San Antonio Chess Club President Selby Anderson (above) won the 1999 Texas Open at the Club Hotel by DoubleTree in San Antonio. The six-round Swiss was held Friday through Sunday, November 26-28, 1999.

In the Open section, the prize winners were: 1st place, Selby Anderson - $333.33 with 5 points; 2nd place, Jason Doss from Dallas - $166.67 with 4.5 points. Armin Burghart of College Station won the 1st U2200 prize of $166.67 with 4 points, and the 2nd U2200 prize and $83.33 was won by Justin Shih from Houston with 3.5 points. The 1st and 2nd U2000 prizes ($200 total) were shared by Jason Howell (Waco), Eric Wiggins (Carrollton), Enrique Rios (San Antonio) and Kelvin Shih (Houston) who all scored 3 points.

In the Reserve (Under 1800) section, the prize winners were: 1st place with 5.5 points: Mark Harrington (San Antonio) $200 ; 2nd place (tie) with 5 points: Tony Sims (Plano), Chris Lin (Houston), and Greg Vega (Slidell, LA), who split $100. 1st U1600 was Vicente Flores (Brownsville) who won $133.33 with 4.5 points; 2nd U1600 (tie) with 4 points: Manuel Gonzalez (Brownsville), Sarkis Agaian (San Antonio) and James Fleener (Austin) who split $66.67. The 1st and 2nd U1400 prizes ($150 total) were split by Eugene Lopez (Elk Grove, IL) and Julio Reyes (San Antonio) who also had 4 points. Finally, there was a 5-way tie for the $66.67 U1200 prize between Peter Tu (Houston), Justin Starkey (Shiro), Patrick Miller (San Antonio), Cullen Hesbrook (Edinburg) and Adit Wongsaroj (San Antonio) all with 3 points.
